Positive psychology studies the psychological aspects of a fulfilling and flourishing life, including happiness, self-esteem, empathy, friendship, love, achievement, creativity, music, spirituality, and humor. Among the research findings that support the idea that happy people function better: A study of aging nuns found that those with a positive outlook in their 20s lived as much as a decade longer than those with a negative outlook, and people who were asked to keep a diary every night for six months, recording things that had gone well that day, fared better in measures of happiness, optimism, and physical health than those who did not. Studies, such as those mentioned in this article about a course from Harvard show that optimism is a skill that can also be taught and learned.
If we believe that a single glorious, ecstatic experience can change a person for the better for life, what about a series of small, positive ones… ones that can follow from cultivating a sense of gratitude for the beautiful things in your life or from taking the time to really listen to music?
A Way to Promote Betterness in Life through Positive thought and Mindful Action
Modern day psychology says that if you change your frame of mind, with positive thoughts, you will change your mood thus positively impacting your life.
Mind over matter is relevant and intrinsic to ones quest for betterness and healing. More and more science is proving what Grandmothers have been saying for generations, there is a direct correlation between ones health and ones state of mind and body. Having a positive disposition is a complementary antidote that we can all dispense to ourselves no matter our state of health and it can only be of benefit with no negative side effects.
That is all good and well but, how is all of the babble relevant to Road Warriors who are in the trenches and unable to find their footing? Sometimes hearing from others “Oh dear, just smile and it will be okay, being positive is a good thing” is enough to make you want to hurl a self – help book into a bonfire. That is precisely why we are here. This section is a collaborative effort by The Choosing Joy Team and our community to bring to you what works; how’s and why’s from people who have “been there.” Each person is different and there choices as to how to find personal positivism, betterness and a better quality of life can be vary greatly but, we can all learn from each other.
